well it’s been a while but I’ve been busy with real life stuff but I took pictures so here is an update on the last two weeks…two weeks ago marked the last show Villains! played with the original line-up. Brandon Willett will be moving to San Antonio to start culinary school and  a new life with his soon to be wife Jewell. I wish him good luck and success in chasing his dream.

gadabout: we’re going to need another round, you’ve got a wedding to go to

Published by admin under gadabout

I went down to Austin for a family wedding last weekend. In between wedding related events I caught up with my buddy Grant and went on some adventures. Austin is a great town for adventures. After the rehearsal dinner it was off to the BS Saloon for some lonestars. Then we bombed the hill in front of Grants apartment.

Intersection of S. Lamar and Barton Springs…lot’s of bikes were out that night

the next morning it was Taco Deli across from the Greenbelt enterance

It was an amazingly beautiful day and everyone was out enjoying it

Grant is a champion and can hold 8 salsas with two hands without dropping them

there was a bird in that tree and was positioned right above those two’s table…nothing ever came of it but I can assure you they were both holding their breath and bracing for the worst

I had some of the best fish tacos I’ve ever had in my life

grant opted for beef

and the salsa was incredible

buffalo exchange…this little tidbit of wisdom caught my eye…I found an awesome casualties shirt

toy-joy…is that not a great cartoon bowie?

bar none the most mysterious thing I have ever bought…I got it for someone special…now they’re connected

spiderhouse…sometimes a blinking jelly alligator is just the right addition to the bar

we grabbed some beers at spiderhouse and enjoyed their tremendous patio

Ahhhhhh the Draught Horse…I always end up here when I come to Austin and there is always something going on in the parking lot

even before they open…man you mean we gotta sit here for 15 minutes?

there was a bike ride gearing up and these guys were serious

then we lost interest because the doors opened

we’re soldiers…and we had two rounds

I’m not exactly sure what they were but from left to right we have a quadrupell a tripell and double (it’s a maredsou #8 and believe it or not the bartender didn’t charge us for it)

round 2

this guys girlfriend was really cool and he had some serious flair on his tandem

I love this State…

gadabout: now that’s entertainment!, watch your eyes

Published by admin under gadabout

I lived in Denton for 7 long years and the whole time I did, something sinister was brewing, just under the surface. That sinister force is called Battlebox and I got to witness it first hand last friday with some friends and an 18-pack of lone star (another one of my best friends). Imagine a place where you can see grown men performing some of the most amazing and downright reckless stunts you’ve ever seen. Professionsl Wrestling is about 70% theatricality and about 30% actual danger. At ECW in Denton I’d say that ratio swings to around 20% theatrics (with the characters and the shit talk and the pulled punches) about 10%…call it crazy? maybe stupidity? or just balls (of which every one of these guys has a huge hairy pair)…and about 60% real bodies in real pain bleeding real blood for a crowd that just eats it up.

It’s Ali Gorey from the Wrecking Crew, Crook Shanks, and Adam (from ECW)

I couldn’t see it but there is a table directly in front of the ring and the first person to break it with a body other than his own is declared the winner.

take note of where these people are sitting and how many spectators are there in the middle

he’s trying to get to that lunch box thing hanging from the lighting rig. in answer to your questions 1. those are fluorescent light bulbs in the ropes 2. yes that is glass on the floor of the ring and 3. yes people were body slammed on top of the glass all night long

I just got up to go to the bathroom and ended up with the best seat in the house

this zebra looked like mr.darcy from married with children he faired better than the other ref (that looked exactly like george lucas) who got knocked out in the next round and then made a really bad call as to who the winner was. I was pissed, and so was everyone else.

yeah he’s bleeding and getting thrown out of the ring. talk about insult to injury

One thing I’ve learned is you always want to keep one eye on the turnbuckle because people are always flying off of it when you least expect it

see what i mean?

this guy won but not after earning a giant t-shaped gash in the middle of his face

this is where all those spectators were earlier

at this point the 18-pack was down pretty far, I feared not for my own safety I just wanted some action shots

blood on the chair? check blood on the floor? check and all of those chairs someone was sitting in

the aftermath

and the final was a pretty non eventful cage match (with a cage match you don’t really get the crowd interaction that makes this sport so rewarding)

and to end the night dominoes…no surprise there

gadabout: saturday night feelin alright

Published by admin under gadabout

sorry for the delay…I’ve been crazy busy lately…this is last weekend just in time for this weekend…

Friday night at Andy’s The Vibes opened for Dun and the headliner didn’t show up…so congrats on your second headlining gig fellas…

The Vibes are such an amazing rock band the lead singer can’t even drink at the bar yet and he rocks my face off every time without fail…

This was Dun’s last show as a two piece they’ll be adding drums (Adam from Villans) and another guitar…

They remind me a lot of incubus before incubus sucked…(think science)

The Boiler Room put my Lone Star in a Miller Lite cup…I think there are laws about things like this…

Saturday was the Formal @ Kettle…Sergio Garcia’s show looked sharp…

I tried to explain that all true Texans own a pair of boots…I don’t think anyone was listening…

Chris and Andee…I think this is pretty iconic…

gadabout: stink love

Published by admin under gadabout

For Living in the Lone Star State this stuff is hard to find in Dallas…I’m calling my congress person…

that’s where I was going but I needed to meet Havi and Autumn first…

ahhhh Amsterdam Bar…I love it…

Havi and Autumn were happy to see me…

these guys were doing some pretty serious street performing…

We went to Kamadeva and Psyche at the Van Ditthavong Gallery and Studio 832…We met Van who owns the gallery and is a reall nice guy besides…

I had some favorites…

like this one by Tania Kaufmann

Kristin Bazan

Josh McGibbons

Brian Gibb (from Art Prostitut/Public Trust)

Nancy Brown

C. Kirk Smith

We continued the night at the Double Wide (I love that bar)…where the Lone Star and Pearl is not only a beer it’s an institution…

we were all pretty much blind by the time we left…

someone is sending you a very clear message…

they had party favors for some reason…

some were really intense like this one…

we didn’t ask silly questions…

the hurricanes here are actually tang and vodka I think…

Havi and Autumn have very strong opinions about fruit in their beer///

I think it’s a law in Texas that all bars have to have Big Buck Hunter and Golden Tee…

Off to Denton…

Trouble on the bridge…

Never did figure out what happened, but two cops stepped out from behind the fire truck and almost got run over…

Whiskey folk was playing at Andy’s…

and it was Hugo’s birthday…and Rachel said Hi…

Sean from Villains! and Jay from D.U.N…

the crowd had fun…

and these guys were really good…

sunday morning after church it was time for Migas with Sean and his lady Alana.

It was a beutiful day for some day drinking…

in Texas we can fly our flag at the same level as the american flag…but most of the time we don’t bother flying the american flag at all…

we also keep our beer in dirty coolers…

I want one of these above my toilet…

Sean got some Ink…Smilin Ricks Rocks…

a day in the life: first of many

Published by admin under gadabout

I’ve decided to start doing a periodic photoblog…here’s the first attempt…though it was a pretty boring day yesterday…I suppose that’s the risk you run though…

I live in a pretty rural suburb as suburbs go…

plastic bags are all over the place these days…think about that next time someone tries to bag your pack of gum…

yes Lewisville has a rodeo arena of it’s very own…in fact I think it has a few…this one seems to be open only on Labor Day…

I wonder if this is a sign for the general public or just for the people who participate in the rodeo…

went to the bike shop to get a new tube…yeah I could have gone to wal-mart but I like to support local business…

I had to go here because this Lowe’s and the Home Depot across the street choked out all of my local hardware stores and I needed a 19mm socket…

I made a new friend…

homemade bread it the greatest…

mmmm…veggies…

back to work…

I tried to pay my taxes but it didn’t go so well…

did some drawing…

changed my bike tube…

found this on the way to work a few days ago…someone had dumped it along with a bunch of other stuff…about a half mile from the dump…some people

minus 3 legs…

equals new toolbox…

my studio…

did some light reading…

to gain some inspiration…

I’m addicted to books…Fast Food Nation changed my life…

I found that even in HD, Ultra Violet with Milla Jovovich is not worth watching…against all odds the effects look even worse at high resolutions…
